We are currently a very small organisation
consisting of three trustees. All of us however, have a great
awareness of Africa two having been born there, one having lived
there and one still doing so. We all have first hand, grass route
knowledge of how this pandemic affects everyone’s life on a
day-to-day basis. We are all aware of the cultural practices that
need to be addressed in order to stop the spread of HIV. We have
many indigenous friends who we have discussed these issues with.
After completing a BA Hons degree Abigail went onto work with
British Airways on their Long Haul fleet travelling worldwide and it
was from these experiences that her passion for Africa, the people
and the continent grew. After emigrating to Zimbabwe in 1996 she
became very involved in a local orphanage Jiros Jeri under the care
of Zimtrust. The devastation that HIV/AIDS is wreaking on the people
of Africa became obvious during this period and she returned to the
UK determined to make a difference.
Jeffery Taylor was born in Zambia to British parents working for
Anglo-American on the Copperbelt in the 1960’s. It was here in this
remote area that he grew up travelling hundreds of miles to Michael
House School in Natal, South Africa. He now lives in Zimbabwe from
where he is director of Chevron Trading Pvt. and where he remains
despite the trying circumstances. Jeffery’s life is impacted by the
AIDS crisis on a daily basis, through the loss of staff / colleagues
and their relatives to the disease. His contribution through his
geographical knowledge of the area is invaluable.
Christopher Young joined the Charity in March 2006. Chris grew up in
Zambia, the son of Zambian farmers. He came to the UK in 1999 to
undertake a BSc in Economics at the London School of Economics. He
currently works for Barclays Capital and is an exam qualified
Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in
England and Wales. He helps hugely both in his capacity of charity
accountant and by having first hand insight into the cost of living
in Zambia. He has also enlisted the volunteer help of friends,
family and well-wishers living in Zambia.
