A.S.A.P. – Aids Support Awareness Project has begun in Zambia.

Endorsement for the project has been obtained from the first lady, Miriam Mwanawasa. Zambia has been selected as the founders see it as a country that is on the path to economic recovery and has enjoyed relative political stability in the 41 years since it gained independence from Britain.

With over one-fifth of the Zambian population infected with AIDS, the economic impact of AIDS cannot be overstated.

Current educational programmes are often in English and are in a written form. Nearly a quarter of the population is defined as illiterate, meaning that non-verbal educational mediums are meaningless to such people.

The Charity’s DVDs are in local language, and its counsellors, are being used to bring HIV/AIDS awareness, education, counselling and testing to disadvantaged rural and urban populations.
